Meena Mane a home for a NRI family in the old lanes of Jayanagar, an anchor point which connects them back to the roots. The brief was to create home that is built on traditional principle which suits the present lifestyle, relevant and contextual.  A four floor 3 bedroom house shall have a scalabity, which should work as one bedroom lavish on regular basis, but should be able to accommodate the gathering of 50 people at a time.

The ground level consist of garage and back  of the house on the side with large lobby and circulation core , and a formal living opening on to rear landscape. An outdoor gazebo with landscape envelope with a small pantry works as a nice spill out giving a desired level of privacy. The internal staircase and lift connect to the upper level, culminating on to a large open to sky reflective pool with living, dining and kitchen straddled across this water body. The facing wall is detailed with stone wall mural of radhakrishna. The reflection of sunlight renders vivid surreal pattern on the ceiling. The informal living room becomes a spill over or an open congregational space since it’s connected to puja room, surrounded by landscape.

The second floor consist of master suite with dedicated toilet/ walk in and laundry areas .Its connected a beautiful lounge with pivoted wooden louvered façade The sunken slab above powder room and puja accommodates planter box.

Third floor above has 2 bedrooms with attached toilet   overlooking the central atrium   establishes the vertical connection. The terrace has a small party hall with Mangalore tile roof. The central atrium has is an abstraction of central courtyard seen in houses of konkan Region morphed with an idea of a chawl seen in Maharashtra.

In terms of material Laterite stone with wood and black basalt cladding as a dominant palette, a cantilever room in the overall massing enhances the visual interest.
